This study evaluates the current condition of water supply and surface water treatment in the lower Amu Darya River, a major source of freshwater for Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The water resources of the lower Amu Darya face challenges due to reduced flow, climatic variability, irrigation demands, and limited treatment infrastructure. We analyzed hydrological data, water allocation policies, and existing water treatment practices to assess supply reliability and treatment efficiency. Results indicate persistent water scarcity, aging supply systems, and a lack of modern treatment facilities. Recommendations include enhancement of treatment infrastructure, integrated water resources management, and adoption of advanced purification technologies. These findings provide insights for policymakers and water resource managers aiming for sustainable water security in the region.
